Mixcloud
Mixcloud is a platform specifically designed for radio shows, DJ mixes, and long-form audio content. Unlike podcast directories, Mixcloud handles music licensing — making it ideal for shows with copyrighted music.
Why Mixcloud
If your shows include licensed music (which most radio shows do), standard podcast directories like Apple Podcasts and Spotify may not be appropriate due to music licensing restrictions. Mixcloud has licensing agreements with music rights holders, so your shows with music can be distributed legally.
AutoPod can automatically upload your episodes to Mixcloud as they're generated.
Setting up Mixcloud
Step 1: Connect your Mixcloud account
- Go to Stream Settings in the dashboard
- Find the Mixcloud Integration section
- Click Connect to Mixcloud
- You'll be redirected to Mixcloud to authorise AutoPod
- Grant access and you'll be redirected back to the dashboard
- The status will show Connected
Step 2: Enable per-show
Mixcloud uploading is controlled at the show level:
- Go to Shows → click a show → Settings tab
- Enable Publish to Mixcloud
- Save
Repeat for each show you want to upload to Mixcloud.
Step 3: Automatic uploads begin
From now on, whenever a new episode is generated for an enabled show, it's automatically queued for Mixcloud upload. The upload happens in the background — you don't need to do anything.
What gets uploaded
When an episode is uploaded to Mixcloud:
| Field | Source |
|---|---|
| Title | Episode title |
| Description | Episode description |
| Artwork | Episode image (falls back to show image, then stream image) |
| Audio | The complete MP3 episode file |
| Tags | From show metadata |
Checking upload status
On the episode page
After an episode is uploaded, a View on Mixcloud link appears on the episode detail page in the dashboard. Click it to see the episode on Mixcloud.
Manual upload
You can also upload individual episodes manually:
- Go to the episode detail page
- Click Upload to Mixcloud from the action menu
- The episode is queued for upload
This is useful for episodes that were created before Mixcloud was enabled, or for retrying failed uploads.
Disconnecting Mixcloud
- Go to Stream Settings → Mixcloud Integration
- Click Revoke or Disconnect
- Your Mixcloud account is unlinked
Existing uploads on Mixcloud are not affected — they stay on your Mixcloud profile. Only future automatic uploads are stopped.
Important notes
Mixcloud has different account tiers. Free accounts may accept uploads but have limitations. For the best experience with AutoPod automatic uploads, a Mixcloud Pro or Select account is recommended.
A common strategy is to use Mixcloud for shows with music (legally handled) and Apple Podcasts/Spotify for talk-only shows. You can configure this per-show in AutoPod — enable Mixcloud for music shows and RSS for talk shows.
If you're uploading music shows to Mixcloud, consider enabling Exclude from RSS on those shows to avoid distributing copyrighted music through podcast feeds. See Managing Shows.
Troubleshooting
Uploads not happening
- Check that Mixcloud is Connected in Stream Settings
- Check that Publish to Mixcloud is enabled on the specific show
- Check the episode detail page — if it says "Upload to Mixcloud" (not "View on Mixcloud"), the upload hasn't happened yet
- Uploads are processed in the background and may take a few minutes
Upload failed
- Mixcloud may reject uploads that are too short, have duplicate titles, or exceed size limits
- Check your Mixcloud account is active and in good standing
- Try a manual upload from the episode detail page
