Devices & Apps

See what devices, operating systems, and apps your listeners use to access your content.

The Audience tab

Go to StatisticsAudience tab. This page breaks down your audience by technology.

Device and app breakdown
The Audience tab shows which devices, operating systems, and apps your listeners use.

Operating system breakdown

A chart shows the distribution of listening across operating systems:

  • iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod)
  • Android
  • Windows (10/11, 8, 7, etc.)
  • macOS
  • Linux
  • ChromeOS
  • Smart TVs (Samsung Tizen, LG WebOS, Roku)
  • Smart speakers (Amazon Echo, Alexa)
  • Other / Unknown

What this tells you:

  • Whether your audience is primarily mobile or desktop
  • Whether you should prioritise iOS or Android testing
  • Whether smart speakers are a meaningful part of your reach

App and browser breakdown

A separate chart shows which apps and browsers your listeners use. AutoPod detects 80+ apps including:

Podcast apps:

  • Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Pocket Casts, Castbox, Podcast Addict
  • AntennaPod, Podcast Republic

Streaming services:

  • Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music, iTunes

Web browsers:

  • Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, Opera

Media players:

  • VLC, iTunes, Sonos

Radio apps:

  • TuneIn, myTuner Radio

What this tells you:

  • How your audience discovers and consumes your content
  • Whether most listening happens through podcast apps, web browsers, or the AutoPod player
  • Which platforms to prioritise for testing and promotion

How the data is collected

AutoPod identifies devices and apps from the user-agent string that every browser and app sends with its requests. This happens automatically — no tracking code or cookies are involved.

The detection covers common devices and apps comprehensively. Unusual or custom user-agents may appear as "Unknown."

Practical uses

Prioritise your testing

If 60% of your audience uses iOS, make sure your player and website work well on iPhones and iPads. If Android dominates, test there first.

Understand your distribution

If most listening happens through Apple Podcasts rather than your AutoPod player, you know your podcast feed is working well and you should focus on optimising your Apple Podcasts listing.

Smart speaker reach

If you see Amazon Echo or Google Home in your breakdown, your live stream or podcast is being accessed by voice. Consider how your show titles and descriptions sound when read aloud.

Report to stakeholders

Device data is valuable for sponsors, funders, and station management. "70% of our audience listens on mobile devices" tells a clear story about how your station is consumed.
